you can determine your own worth

So... I actually did use a coaching call (erm... text) last night... if you can imagine that.

and... I would say it wound up serving its purpose. Perhaps not the degree that I'd hope for (or my therapist might have hoped for), but it served a purpose.

I wound up talking to MissMaryMax about these sorts of calls and she said/texted something that was profound to me. That sometimes when we say that something we're doing isn't "bad enough" to warrant help, what we're really saying is that we don't think we're "good enough" to deserve help. Oh that word enough crops up again.

In a way we can help decide our "enoughness" (how very Zora Neale Hurston of me to create my own word by tacking on an ending) by the requests we make, the actions we take, and the way in which we allow people to treat us. We have the worth and the value that we decide to give ourselves.

It's true if you really think about it. If you thought you were worthy of kindness, would you be as apt to tolerate people treating you poorly day after day than if you thought you weren't worthy of good treatment?

It's definitely something to think about... how much do YOU think you are worth?

  1. I never thought about it that way.

But it's so true. I know throughout my whole life, I have struggled with feeling like I wasn't "enough" and it's sometimes I still struggle with now (but not as severly, thanks goodness) and we hear people ALL the time saying (including me)that their illness isn't "bad enough" to deserve help. And now, when I think about it... isn't them saying that statement - proving that they DO in fact deserve and need the help. I hope someday, I will be able to feel "enough" just the way that I am. I hope we ALL will! ;)

  2. How very profound of the two of you.

I find it odd, yet fitting, that we all can find what we need to in the words that others share, that we are all tied together while seemingly alone, in what we feel.

So darling girl, how much do you think you are worth?
